Who was Joyce?
Here lie Retriever Sam and Thomas the Cat.
Both faithful and true.
Died 1900 Erected by Joyce.
Also Laddie Jan 1902
Living at The Street in 1901 was a cotton manufacturer called David
Marriage, his wife Mary (nee Sidebottom) and one of his daughters Mary
Pauline. Also living there was their nephew Albert Marriage and several
servants.
David and Mary Marriage also had two other daughters:-
Phyllis Mary and Joyce Mary, both of whom were away at boarding schools in
Kents Bank, Lancashire and Leamington Priors, Warwickshire respectively.
It was Joyce (at age of 11) that had the headstone erected for her pets. She
obviously loved them dearly.
