Withnell Fold to Brimmicroft Bridge
Date | 19/12/2007 | |||||
Starting Point | Withnell Fold (SD611232)
Distance | 3 miles | |||||
A lovely December day and so I took Troy, our dog, a 3 mile walk along the Leeds - Liverpool canal from Withnell Fold to the M65 bridge that crosses the cut (canal) and back to Withnell Fold. This section is probably the quietest section of the canal between Wigan and Blackburn and is full of wildlife. |
After leaving Withnell Fold the canal tow path is under trees for half a mile, then suddenly it opens up and this view is available |
..and here is a close up of bridge no. 89 and its arch reflected in the water
Slightly further on and the above view opens up.
This view is looking back in the direction of Withnell Fold
| ||||||
Two swans glide gracefully southwards
| ||||||
Here's another view of them as they pass me.
| ||||||
Zooming in on one of them!
| ||||||
Just before arriving at Brimmicroft Bridge there is this sign in the canal.
In the fields across, this tree stood out, caught in late sunshine whilst the trees behind were in shade.
This narrow boat was approaching the M65 bridge
Troy sees something that interests him
...as sheep are gathered up across on the opposite bank

And another view of it

And here is the final view of Withnell Mill as we arrive back at Withnell Fold
