Great Mell Fell

Date                   28/4/2002

GREAT MELL FELL - its inverted pudding basin shape does not promise much for the walker and it is rarely climbed. on closer acquaintance, however, it is rather more enjoyable than its appearance suggests, because of the presenceof fine woodlands on the lower slopes, indeed pines and larchesb persist almost to the summit

Passing through Greystoke village on the way to Great Mell Fell

The view across to Little Mell Fell from the start of the walk

The Eastern slopes of Great Mell Fell

Great Mell Fell summit cairn

The view north from the summit as the cloud lifts

Looking back along the path to the summit

Cloud lifts to reveal the westerly view

And another view over to Little Mell Fell from higher slopes of Great Mell Fell

...and admiring the view along the Penrith corridor.
