Back on the fells at last, but only just! Our intention had been Rannerdale, Whiteless Pike and Wandope, but heavy rain and winds made us change our mind. As we passed Buttermere Water a group of intrepid souls in rubber suites were entering the water, and to be perfectly honest we would have needed wet suites if we had continued with our original plan. We sat in the car park to see if the rain eased, but it didn't. We made a decision to head back to Keswick but as we approached Castle Crag the rain stopped and we made a hasty decision to go up the crag.

So parking up at Grange we had a coffee at the cafe before setting off. The rain held off until we approached the zig zag path through the slate which leads to the summit. Here it started to poor down along with an increase in the wind. On the descent the rain stopped again and we decided to head for Rosthwaite and get a Herdwick pasty from the farm cafe. Although the pasties are very good, they are very expensive.

As we left the farm it rained again and we had no hesitation in going to the bar of the Scafell Hotel. There we stayed for a couple of hours as the rain got heavier and heavier, and the bar got busier and busier as sodden humans and dogs sought shelter. Eventually Paul went for the car and we made our way home.

A very enjoyable day that the weather couldn't spoil
